OCULUS @ FACEBOOK

Lobby 18 Renovation, Oculus @ MPK

The Oculus team relocated in 2015 from Irvine, CA to join their new Facebook family at the Menlo Park, CA headquarters and established its place within the main Facebook campus.

We renovated the space in partnership with Olson Kundig Architects to reflect the Oculus’ modern and sleek brand aesthetic while still remaining true to Facebook's eclectic “resimercial” style, providing an inspiring space for employees and visitors to pass through daily.

Building 17 Expansion, Oculus @ MPK

As the team expanded on campus to an adjacent building, we continued to partner with the Workplace Facilities Team to bring the existing look and feel of the original office to our new space.

During this design planning process, we met extensively with department heads and team leads to have a thorough understanding of their headcount and future facilities needs, in order to restack the organization as efficiently as possible. Requests and requirements included ample workstations, conference rooms, custom labs/specialty spaces as well as allocating team adjacencies to provide better synergy amongst departments.

Bridge, Oculus @ MPK

When the Oculus team began growing and expanding at Facebook, we addressed the need to build a bridge to help improve connectivity amongst teams split up between two separate buildings on campus. In January 2017, we opened the second phase of our expansion, achieving our deadline despite unideal weather conditions!

BRIDGE FUN FACTS

  • The design is inspired by the angled steel cables of the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge. (There are red bridges elsewhere on campus that are inspired by the Golden Gate Bridge.)

  • Initial design to the completion of construction took 263 days (May 2, 2016 through Jan 20, 2017), which aligned with team expansion and projected headcount growth within the company.

  • Designed in San Francisco and Palo Alto by Gensler and Hohbach-Lewin, Inc. and built in Gilroy by American Steel

  • Bridge was carefully hoisted into position at night by a crew of ironworkers on the night of January 4th at 9PM and was secured by the next morning by 6AM. There also was approximately 2" of rain that night.

  • Total length = 47’-6”, Center Span 21’-3”; Width = 8’-6”

  • Bridge weighs 13,800 lbs and was built in one piece.
